Monster Green Power

"Leaking Electricity" or the "Phantom Load"

The US Department of Energy estimates the waste from "phantom load", "standby power" or "leaking electricity" can amount to 20% of your home electricity use. I was shocked to learn recently that even when equipment such as television, radio's, phone chargers, stereos and computers are turned off but not unplugged from the outlet, they are still receiving electrical current. My electric bill is already very high as it is, if there is a way for me to save electricity and save money on my electrical bill, I am all for it. I need to reduce energy consumption by using energy savings devices like Monster power surge protectors. The added benefit to using one of these energy savings devices is that in addition to saving money on your electric bill, it can help to do our part in reducing climate change and help to do our part to save the environment.

Whole House Audio Audio System

We have an average size home with a very nice whole house audio system and a home theater system with flat screen television. The electric bill continues to rise as we add more products to the system - we recently added a Blu-Ray player. In our media closet we now have a Blu-Ray Player, CD Player, Digital Music System, RF Receiver for the Universal Remote Control, Router, Modem, AV Receiver and a Satellite Box. There must be energy saving devices that can save electricity and save money on our electric bill.

All products in our system are turned off when not in use. When I think of the amount of power that is still being sent into this rack of components even when it is turned off, I see dollar signs spinning around and around as fast as the electric meter must be turning. The waste of money and electric resources caused from this "phantom load" or "leaking electricity" boggles the mind.

Monster GreenPower HDP 1400G Power Center

Incorporating Green Power Into Our Home

In our home we are continuing to learn new ways to save electricity, save money and go green. We recycle, use canvas reusable grocery bags, compost, grow our own vegetable garden and now we are incorporating green power and energy saving products.

We have installed the Monster GreenPower HDP 1400G Power Center. We installed it about three weeks ago and I will update this article to let you know how the use of the GreenPower Center affects our electric bill. I can tell you that the meter does not seem to be spinning as quickly since we have installed the product.

Our goal in all of this is the shut down the "Phantom Load" or "Leaking Electricity" that continues to pulse through our equipment even when it is turned off and hopefully see some home electricity savings.

west40, hi this is a great educational Hub, another waster I have found is the small battery chargers (you know the AA and AA rechargables) people leave them plugged in and turned on. Even when they have no batteries in them they are using power.

Absolutely, I have been guilty of leaving my phone charger plugged in in the past but have changed my ways. It is an energy saver to unplug all those unused items. Thank You
