A Bunny Cake to Make with Your Children

It must have been Easter of 1987, my son was two years old. He was at the age where everything was fun and amazing for him - and me too.

I decided to make an Easter Bunny Cake, stuff some large plastic Easter Eggs and color some Easter Eggs so we could invite the neighbors and their kids over after Easter Dinner for cake and an Easter Egg Hunt. We were living outside of Atlanta, Georgia at the time and no one in our neighborhood had any family in the area so we all would depend on each other.

I was not much of a baker at the time, I have improved greatly since then, but I decided to make this very easy Easter Bunny Cake and hang some Easter decorations. You make it with a store bought cake mix baked in two round cake pans, cut the cake as shown below, and decorate.

The Cake When Finished will Look Something Like This

This is Where My Son Becomes Traumatized

I worked very hard on this cake, with my sons help. We had such fun decorating and discussing Easter. He was very excited about having our friends and their children come over after dinner to enjoy the Easter cake and have an Easter Egg Hunt.

All was great until it came time to cut the Easter Bunny Cake. My sons lips began to quiver and then an all out scream came from this little sweat child. He looked at me with his tear-filled, devastated little eyes and yelled, "Mommy killed the Easter Bunny!"

I thought I had traumatized him for life. Several minutes later, and a lot of explaining about the Easter Bunny and cake, he was fine and we all enjoyed a wonderful evening of Easter Bunny Cake, Easter Eggs, friends and coffee.

A quick note: This young man who was so devastated at the thought of cutting into the cake is now in Medical School looking at becoming an Orthopedic Surgeon.

Cute story, and actually a very nice cake pattern that anyone could follow. I'm sure your son will enjoy passing down this story to his own children at Easter.

susansisk,

Thanks for the comment, he loves this story and I thought the "how to" cut the shapes would be a nice add.

What a sweet story, I could just picture his little lips going as you went to cut the cake you made, poor boy. He's becomeing a surgeon, you must be so proud, cute pics too. :)

I can't even begin to tell you how proud I am of all my kids - my son has a drive that I have rarely seen in anyone.
